Should I take Spanish For my Job or not?

groversamantha asked:

A very good Pastor Friend of mine said to me today at a party that we were at that all the mexicans that come into Arcadia, WI the town she and I live in should be made to learn English. She knows I was singed up for Spanish classes. I don’t know If I want to take them anyway Sept-16-Nov 18th all Tuesdays. I know I should go to the Lord and ask Him First. I just want to get conformation about this.

I think you should because it’s great to know two languages and if you’re bilingual, you can get more jobs because many jobs will hire bilingual people instead of people who only speak one language. Plus spanish is fun to learn, I took it.

This is a subject that has really been bothering me a lot lately. At first I had the attitude that “There is NO WAY that I am going to be forced to learn Spanish when I live in America”.

Then day after day when I look in the paper for jobs more than half of them say “SPANISH SPEAKING ONLY, MUST BE BILINGUAL, DON’T APPLY IF YOU DON’T SPEAK SPANISH” and then I realize that the longer I stay angry and refuse to learn Spanish, the longer I am only causing myself to be at a disadvantage. Being that I am not qualified for half of the jobs in the paper no matter how much education or experience that I have as long as I don’t know how to speak Spanish and that is what they require.

So as angry as it makes me, I feel that I just don’t have a choice anymore and the way that it is going eventually anyone that wants to obtain employment or even change career fields here in the USA will have to do the exact same thing or they will be limiting their choices or are even going to have trouble obtaining employment at all and if it has gotten this bad now, then all of are children and future generations will not have a choice either.
