Hi! I have a 14 yr old sister who decided a year ago that she was bored of her Spanish classes and wanted to try Japanese. She definitely has an interest in the culture (she watches anime with subtitles, dressed up in a kimono for a school project, loves the movie “Memoirs of a Geisha”, and she even had a Japanese foreign exchange student stay for 3 weeks this past summer).

But I can’t seem to get her to do her Japanese lessons!!! She does Rosetta Stone (a computer program that focuses on speaking the language) and we just bought her a hiragana practice workbook. She can not work on her Japanese in school because the school she attends is very small and doesn’t have a computer for her to use. So she has to do all her work at home—- she’s supposed to do about 30 min a night (as a general rule). She doesn’t do any sports or after-school programs, so she has PLENTY of time to do her work.

So….. does anyone have any fun ideas how I can get her off the cell phone and doing her Japanese???? : )

I understand it’s a difficult language to learn (I’m taking Japanese I in college), but she insists she does NOT want to go back to Spanish. I’ve thought about using reward systems, but I can’t think of any really good ones. Please HELP!!!!! Thank you for your suggestions!

Rosetta stone and muzzy are not useful for me in Spanish and french that I’ve taken them.
