How many people do not speak Spanish that are Hispanic or Latino?
I am half Filipino and half Puerto Rican and was raised in the US. Both my parents speak Spanish fluently and I understand it. I however, don’t speak Spanish I don’t have much of an accent when I speak. Whenever someone that speaks Spanish finds out that I don’t speak Spanish fluently they look disgusted. Like now I’m not Puerto Rican enough. Anyone have the same experience?

Should I attempt learning Korean or Japanese?
I’ve read up on many other questions/answers posted on this site about the debate on which language to learn. Almost every person that preferred Japanese simply did so because they didn’t want to “read the subs” on animes. I think that is a ridiculous reason to learn a language. You should be interested in the *entire* culture, not just the animes and mangas – because you’d be incredibly disappointed going to Japan and realizing how little of an impact the two play on the entire culture.
I’m seriously debating which of the two I should learn – I’m a senior in high school, and this summer my parents are willing to pay/invest as much as is needed in any programs or trips to Japan or Korea.
I used to love Japanese culture much more than Korean culture simply because of animes and the songs that came along with them. However, most of the Japanese music industry consists of either ******** rock or bubblegum pop. About two years ago I started getting into Korean music… and that is literally all I listen to now.
A lot of people say that “there aren’t even that many Korean people” and thus you should learn Japanese. I have NO clue what they are talking about. The school I go to has a LOT of Asian people, and the MAJORITY of the people here are Korean. Twenty-two of my Korean friends are going to Korea this summer. Everyone that is Korean speaks Korean. I personally have NEVER met anyone in my life that was *full* Japanese – let alone someone that could speak Japanese conversationally. The students in AP Japanese Language at our high school cannot even carry a simple conversation without struggling.
The only thing that is keeping me from committing to Korean is the fact that Japan is a more well-known place and it’s beautiful there. Korea is incredibly fast on the rise in terms of globalization, because of the amount of Korean people in America and the boom of their entertainment industry.
I can pronounce Korean words, and that is one of the reasons why people think that it is hard to learn. Japanese is obviously a language that most people can never perfect. Korean just seems the best for me, even though two years ago I would say the complete opposite. The difference is – I’m not basing my arguments solely off of the fact that I like animes (which is what most people base their Japanese-bias off of).
I think Korean would be MUCH more useful for me, because I know SO many Korean people, and there are never people who can speak Japanese… It’s like Spanish VS. French… ie: Korean VS. Japanese.
Anyways, if anyone has any other rational and valid arguments that they could bring forth that may change my mind or bring light to other things, please write them down!!!
Thank you!!!

Is Rosetta Stone the best way to learn Spanish, other than immersion?
Before I spend a lot of money on this program, by your experience, is it effective? If I were to go through the whole program– all levels– how fluent would I become? Should I use Rosetta Stone along with another program/ book? Do you have any suggestions?
I am looking at the possibility of teaching in a school with a large Hispanic population and really don’t want to always have to have a translator to communicate, especially to parents. In the next two years of using Rosetta Stone on a frequent and regular basis, I’m hoping it would get me to the level I need to be at in order to communicate and understand Spanish effectively in that manner.
Thank you!

I’m taking Spanish this year but I need to learn German for a trip to there. How should I schedule my learning
Basically, my class-transfer deadline was Friday, and my parents surprised me with a Germany Saturday. I’m taking Spanish and after extensive negotiations with my guidance counselor my family and I have come to the conclusion that I’m S-C-R-E-W-E-D. In the end, I have a few options:
-Take a Summer Course.
-Learn via tape or CD.
-Anything else you guys could think of.
Taking a summer course seems like the best way to learn it, but it will be summer, and in my experience, learning and summer don’t mix.
I could learn with an audio-typed thing, but I’m afraid it will not be nearly as affective as the summer course.
Are there any other good methods?
Also, when should I start learning? I aim at being able to accurately know what almost everyone is saying in Germany. Should I start now or after my Spanish semester ends at Christmas.
Just please give me any advice you can give like what method you think is most affective and possibly include specific devices and such.
Thanks.
